Huntington Opens Commercial Bank HQ in Detroit

DETROIT — Huntington Bank celebrated the grand opening of its new Huntington Tower in downtown Detroit. The bank’s new location marks the first office building development in over 30 years.

Detroit’s Huntington Tower, located at 2023 Woodward Ave, will become another addition to The District Detroit area, a mixed-use sports and entertainment district. 

“This investment is a beautiful is more than a beautiful building in the heart of downtown Detroit,” said Steve Steinour, Huntington’s president and CEO. “It’s another symbol of our strong commitment to the community, as well as our dedication to Huntington colleagues across southeast Michigan. After a few difficult years due to the pandemic, this building will serve as a place for colleagues to gather again and connect, collaborate, and innovate, and work together to best serve our customers and communities.”

The grand opening of the new 21-story structure brought out the mayor, governor and other officials to celebrate the investment and commitment the banking institution is making in Detroit.

“We are fortunate in Detroit to have some remarkable corporate leaders who are deeply invested in the success of our city and its people,” said Mayor Mike Duggan, City of Detroit. “We are truly blessed to have Steve Steinour, Gary Torgow, and Sandy Pierce, who have been full partners in our city’s revitalization, especially at the neighborhood level. With Huntington’s opening today of the first high-rise office tower to be built in Detroit in 30 years, we see another level of their commitment.”

Huntington Bank continues to pour into its community investment plan with four goal pillars which includes access to capital for small businesses, and significant focus towards serving under-resourced communities.

Homeownership and affordable housing is another focus for the company as well as racial and social equity. 

“We’ve committed $10million to the Strategic Neighborhood Fund (in Detroit), in addition to a billion dollars across our communities in Wayne County,” said LaTrice McClendon, Community President for Huntington National Bank in Detroit. “Having  a headquarters here gives us the opportunity to double down on our commitment. We’re not just in the community, we’re actually now headquartered in Detroit. We’re so proud and it’s such a celebration.”
