Honk for Candy: Detroit Deltas to Host Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat Event

Back again for the fourth year in a row, the Detroit Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is proud to host Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 30. The event will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the DSTDFI Headquarters, located at 24760 West Seven Mile Road in Detroit. Families with children ages 15 and under, who live in Southeast Michigan, are invited to participate. To guarantee the safety of all participants, this event will be drive-thru only. Families will be greeted with bags of sweet treats, music, ghouls and goblins.

“The Detroit Deltas want to bring smiles to the faces of children in our community,” said Katrenia L. Camp, president of the Detroit Alumnae Chapter. “The pandemic has taken a toll on everyone. Our goal is to ensure local children can enjoy Halloween this year and do so safely. We’re pleased to host our Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat event.”

Trunk or Treat is free to the community. In previous years, more than 800 children have attended. This year, families are asked to remain in their vehicles as a safety precaution. Upon entering the parking lot, vehicles will drive through designated areas to receive individually-wrapped candy bags for each child in the vehicle. Candy will be available while supplies last. All volunteers will be wearing personal protective equipment.

“We’re working hard to prepare for Trunk or Treat,” said Courtney Hough, chair of the chapter’s Outreach Committee. “Members of our chapter have donated candy for the children, as well as signed up to stuff treat bags and distribute them.”

Trunk or Treat is one of the chapter’s most popular activities. For additional information, please contact the Outreach Committee Chair, Courtney Hough, at 313-570-6335 or by email at outreach@detroitdeltas.org
