Historic Northland Mall's doors closed permanently

northland bearStanding on Northwestern Highway in Southfield, The Northland Center Mall has been part of the community for the past 60 years  and was one of the nation’s first regional shopping malls, Northland Center Mall’s doors are now closed marking the end of an era in the shopping mall business.

Opening in 1954, Northland Center Mall was developed by the former Detroit based J.L. Hudson Co. When first opening, the mall was originally an open-air concept mall until the mid-1970’s when the mall was expanded and turned into an enclosed mall.
