Henry Ford celebrates Heart Month with walk-through heart

The world’s only touring, walk-through heart exhibit will visit metro Detroit on Feb. 7 as part of Henry Ford Health System’s celebration of Heart Month.
The MEGA Heart, a 26-foot-long, 13-foot-high heart model, will be part of a free health fair taking place from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Westin Hotel in Southfield.
“This is a chance for everyone to see exactly why heart health is so important,” says Earlexia Norwood, M.D., director of Community Health Education for Henry Ford Health System and the keynote speaker for the event. “For those walking through it, the MEGA Heart helps people visualize the importance of eating well, exercising and taking care of your heart.”
After registration opens at 8 a.m., the event begins at 8:30 a.m. with a free Heart Smart® continental breakfast. Dr. Norwood’s talk on heart health, “Put Your Heart Into It,” takes place from 9 to 10 a.m. Guests can tour the MEGA Heart and the health fair from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Exhibits will include information on programs throughout Henry Ford Health System and topics including heart health, heart disease, diet, exercise, stress management and other heart-related topics. Heart Health programs at all Henry Ford locations — including Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, and Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital – will be represented.
The Westin is located at 1500 Town Center in Southfield. There is no charge for the event, and groups are encouraged. But pre-registration is required. For more information or to RSVP, call 1-800-532-2411 or visit henryford.com/heartmonth.
