GROUPS CAN SIGN UP FOR ARISE DETROIT! 9th ANNUAL NEIGHBORHOODS DAY

Churches, community groups and block clubs can now register for the 9th annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day. This breathtaking display of community pride, featuring more than 100 community improvement projects in neighborhoods all over the city, takes place on Saturday, August 1.
Groups can register at www.arisedetroit.org, or by phone at 313-921-1955. For the $50 registration fee, groups will receive custom made banners with their organization’s name, t-shirts, cleanup bags, volunteer recruitment assistance, and marketing support. The registration deadline is July 1. Registration has been expanded to include all groups that have their events throughout the month of August.
“With so much focus on improving the city’s neighborhoods, Neighborhoods Day is the perfect expression of the pride and perseverance of residents who have never given up on their city,” said Luther Keith, ARISE Detroit! executive director. “We want the nation and the world to see this engaged, hopeful and committed side of Detroit on August 1.”
Last year, more than 200 events and activities were held throughout Detroit, stretching from the riverfront to the city’s boundary at Eight Mile Road. There will be festivals, educational events, cleanup projects, garden planting, and volunteer initiatives with local businesses joining hands with city residents and suburbanites. Scores of churches and faith-based institutions will participate, along with numerous block clubs, community organizations and small businesses.
Once again, ARISE Detroit! is partnering with Detroit Public Schools to invite local businesses and community organizations to adopt schools for Neighborhoods Day. The volunteers are being encouraged to create “safe school” routes in blighted neighborhoods and perform various school renovation and beautification projects. Organizations interested in adopting schools should contact ARISE Detroit! at 313-921-1955.
