Gov. Rick Snyder signs bill to provide home heating assistance to low-income residents

LANSING — Utilities can charge customers up to $1 per month to provide heating assistance to low-income residents.

Gov. Rick Snyder on Monday signed Senate Bill 284, which allows the Michigan Public Service Commission to raise up to $50 million per year through customer surcharges for the Low-Income Energy Assistance Fund. The fund also will receive $10 million in federal dollars.

“This is an important bill that will provide a long-term solution to help Michigan’s most vulnerable citizens with their home energy and heating needs,” Snyder said in a statement. Continue to MLive…
