Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Endorses Joe Biden For President

Governor Gretchen Whitmer is backing Democratic candidate Joe Biden for the presidency. Whitmer announced her support for Biden on Twitter, doubling down on her support for him on behalf of Michigan residents.

“We need a president who will show up and fight for Michiganders and has proven time and again that he has our back. I am proud to both endorse him and announce that I will be joining his campaign as a co-chair,” said Whitmer on Twitter.

Like Biden, Whitmer is a part of the Democratic Party. In February, Whitmer gave the State of the Union on behalf of the Democratic Party. Throughout her address, she criticized Trump on several issues ranging from policy to job reform and healthcare. “Democrats are trying to make your health care better. Republicans in Washington are trying to take it away,” said Whitmer. “The only victories that matter in Washington are victories that deliver for the American people.”

Whitmer’s endorsement of Biden comes on the heels of the Michigan Democratic primary on March 10. Biden will be attending the “Get Out The Vote” event on March 9. Biden is currently leading the Democratic votes with 602 delegates while opponent Bernie Sanders sits at 538 delegates. 1,991 delegates are needed to win the Democratic nomination.
