The Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) are ending off the summer with a bang. Join GSSEM at Palmer Park on Saturday, September 10th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Family Day. This free event, jam packed with family friendly activities, showcases how Girl Scouting isn’t just a fun pastime—it’s a way of life.
Family Day offers a first-hand look into the exciting experiences available in southeastern Michigan through Girl Scouts for girls in kindergarten to 12th grade. The day’s activities will center on Girl Scouts four program pillars (STEM, Outdoor, Entrepreneurship and Life Skills). All youth in attendance will be given a passport to the fun. Everyone who completes at least two activities from each pillar will receive a free Family Day patch. Activities include a climbing wall, Lego Derby, basketball clinic hosted by the Detroit Pistons, archery lessons, and so much more.
GSSEM advances the potential of young girls and empowers them as leaders by tapping into their creativity. Through intentional programming, GSSEM fosters change-makers who are shaping the future of female leadership. While Girl Scouts is for young girls, Family Day is for everyone.
“Girl Scouting really is a family affair, and this is a chance for the whole family to see how they can be a part of helping the girls in their lives build leadership skills,” said Tiffiny Griffin, Deputy Chief Program Officer at GSSEM. “In Girl Scouts, girls learn so much about themselves and their capabilities. They learn how to apply the skills they build in Girl Scouts to everyday life, which equips them to make a difference in their communities. We want the community to come and see Girl Scouting in action for themselves, and find out how they can be a part.”
GSSEM staff will be on hand to answer any questions and provide membership information for anyone interested in their girl joining or for adults who would like to volunteer. Free refreshments will also be available. Girl Scouts alumnae may even find a bit of nostalgia by participating in the opening or closing flag ceremonies at the start or end of the event. Parking is free and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
