Kyle Bartell
Kyle Bartell is an urban planner and Co-founder of Sit On It Detroit, a project that builds benches at bus-stops out of reclaimed wood with little libraries built into the design. Over the past three years SOI Detroit has built over 50+ benches at bus-stops in Detroit and has distributed over 10,000 articles of literature. Kyle Bartell along with his partner Charles have received national and and international recognition for their work in providing a better quality of life for transit riders and has expanded the project into other countries {Toronto, Canada and Brussels, Belgium}. SOI Detroit had the privilege of working with amazing community groups, companies, corporations and philanthropic organizations large and small.
Prior to starting Sit On It Detroit, Kyle Bartell grew up on Detroit’s NW on Outer Drive. Bartell attended Detroit Public Schools and often utilized public transportation to commute to school and baseball practice which sparked his interest in sustainable planning. Bartell was accepted into Wayne State University where he studied Urban Planning and Business. He later on worked with Wayne State University Center For Urban Studies as a research assistant and community organizer for the Midtown Urban Safety Project. Bartell has put his academic and work experience into running his company and project full time. Looking forward Bartell looks to provide more jobs and career opportunities for citizen who have that shared vision of building a better Detroit.
