Over 100 positions in the city of Detroit are waiting to be filled by hardworking residents looking for a new, local opportunity.
The City of Detroit’s General Services Department is holding a Virtual Job Fair 4-6 p.m. Monday, March 29. The typical in-person job fair is now virtual and interested in Detroiters filling these positions and getting to work.
Available positions include everything from a vehicle operator/laborer (wages start at $15.16) to a park maintenance foreman (wages start at $17.37) — and much more.
City Community Liaison Korey Batey said that the job fair is an on-time opportunity.
“During a time when many men as women are looking to get back into this workforce, this program creates a safe and open space for returning citizens to have gainful employment opportunities,” he said. “These men and women are (also) learning to operate heavy equipment and taking on new leadership roles with their newfound opportunities. Unlike other jobs at other companies, (thes positions) give the workers a chance to see the immediate impact they are having to the many communities where they are cleaning the alleys.”
Zak Meers, a project manager with the city for the past six years, works with the city Ally Clean Up program, which he described as an “exciting opportunity.”
“Not only is the job making a tangible difference in our neighborhoods removing decades-old blight from our community, but it offers so many opportunities to learn new skills through training and hands-on learning in the field which translates to the widening of a career path,” Meers said.
