GDYT interns learn and earn on production of ‘Detroiters’

After a successful pilot in 2015, Comedy Central in January greenlit the filming of the first season of “Detroiters.”detroiters Production is in the final weeks. Media are invited to meet members of the production, including several Detroit youth employed as part of Mayor Mike Duggan’s ‘Grow Detroit’s Young Talent program. This is the first-ever “film track” developed and offered through GDYT.
GDYT started in 2015 when it exceeded its goal of employing 5,000 Detroit Youth.  Due to demand, the target was increased to 8,000 for the 2016 program, and that target was again beaten.  Youth worked a total of 120 hours during July and August, and ‘Detroiters’ has employed two waves of GDYT interns due to the length of the production.
A successful package developed by the City of Detroit, in partnership with the Michigan Film and Digital Media Office, ensured that the debut series would be shot in Detroit after the shuttering of the Michigan Film Incentive (which supported the production of the pilot).
This project is the first television production to partner with the Detroit Film Initiative (DFI), a public-private partnership between the City, State, and Detroit-area private sector to grow and market the city as the creative media hub of the Midwest.
Media will have a rare opportunity to film the production Base Camp at the Masonic Temple and the ‘Video Village’ located across the street outside Temple Bar. Interviews are available with key production members, including GDYT youth, and representatives of the MEDC’s Michigan Film and Digital Media Office who worked with the City of Detroit to confirm Comedy Central’s commitment to film in Detroit after the successful pilot. No photography of monitors, scripts or on-camera production talent is permitted
