Great Lakes Culinary Center announces two key changes to leadership: Taylor Brown as Director of Operations and Shanel DeWalt as Executive Chef. A Garden Dinner evening event on September 3rd, 2020, will introduce the new team while benefitting Brilliant Detroit, a Detroit non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children in high-need neighborhoods with programs and other resources necessary to be school-ready, healthy, and stable.
Taylor Brown, formerly Event Coordinator for Great Lakes Culinary Center since 2018, has been promoted to Director of Operations. Taylor will oversee all staff and all day-to-day operations of the Southfield, MI based event center moving forward. Brown will continue to work with clients and Chef Shanel DeWalt to create unforgettable special events as well as growing the offsite catering side of the business. When asked about what’s in store for Great Lakes Culinary Center, Brown responded: “Our entire staff is very energized, we have a lot of exciting new programs we’ll be rolling out over the next year – stay tuned!”
Executive Chef Shanel Dewalt has been an integral part of Great Lakes Culinary Center for the last three years as Sous Chef. As Executive Chef, Shanel will have creative control of menus and will be integral in planning customized experiences for all Great Lakes Culinary Center clients. DeWalt has an extensive background in culinary arts, graduating from the Schoolcraft College Culinary Program and subsequently forming her own company, Divine Indulgence Personal Chef Services, which she ran independently prior to joining the Great Lakes team in 2017. “We are ready to take Great Lakes Culinary Center to the next level in every way,” said DeWalt. “I look forward to working closely with Taylor as we bring our creative concepts to life for our customers.”
The Garden Dinner event will be set in Great Lakes Culinary Center’s beautiful organic garden and patio. Putting guests’ safety as a top priority, CDC guidelines for social distancing and crowd size will be observed. Temperature checks and masks will be required for entry to the facility. Guests can expect a uniquely crafted four-course meal paired with wine and specialty cocktails, live music and a raffle of various items and experiences. 100% of proceeds from the raffle will go directly to Brilliant Detroit.
