Franklin Wright Settlements recently hired Terri L. Mial, MSW to the position of Chief Development Officer. Considered a leader in the area of youth development and parental involvement, Mial has worked with Detroit area youth and their parents for more than 30 years. For the past decade, she served at the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.

We look forward to her helping us navigate the new post-quarantine landscape and the challenges it presents, especially in the service to children, families and the community.”
Born and raised in Detroit, Mial will be responsible for fund development and managing relationships with community stakeholders.
Mial has a long successful history of building relationships with community organizations and individuals who come together to improve the conditions of Detroit youth and their families. Working with DPS since 2003, Mial is one of the creators of the DPS Parent Enrichment Seminars which changed the face of parental involvement at DPS from social based to educational involvement. She was also instrumental in creating the DPS Annual Peace Conference that focused on conflict resolution and violence prevention with 500 DPS high school students.
A social worker licensed by the State of Michigan, Mial received national accolades for the creation of the Let’s Make it Plan, Abstain Project which included an abstinence music video featuring Big Sean at the age of 14. The abstain project also included Billboards, and an Abstinence Ball for 200 youth who agreed to take an oath of abstinence during Prom Season.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University in Individual and Family Relationships and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University. She is the proud mother daughter, Tara Nicole and son, AJ.
