Four Detroit nonprofits receive $10,00 grant from DTE Foundation through Your Cause, Your Choice contest

The DTE Foundation has awarded the eight winning Michigan-based nonprofits and the four Detroit-based nonprofits from this year’s Your Cause, Your Choice contest each with a $10,000 grant. All eight nonprofits will also receive DTE volunteer support, based on their individualized needs.

The annual Your Cause, Your Choice contest launched in June where DTE employees nominated nonprofits across the company’s service territory that needed a helping hand. Eligible nonprofits were then opened to public voting to determine the winners.

“Our energy powers communities, so we’re passionate about making our public service personal. We’re grateful for our partners who inspire and drive progress in our communities. Together, we’re working toward a thriving Michigan with opportunities for all,” said Lynette Dowler, vice president of public affairs at DTE and president of the DTE Foundation. “Our nonprofit partners allow us to support their individual missions, which are formed around the community’s needs. Having the chance to expand our support with the help of those who voted is a unique opportunity to assist more individuals and create new relationships with organizations that generate positive impact.”

The winning Detroit-based nonprofits include:

Detroit Magic Child Development

Detroit Magic Child Development’s works with parents, churches, schools, and other organizations to provide a nurturing environment in the community to build character and promote academic achievement with our youth.

Gjergj Kastrioti Scholarship Fund

Gjergj Kastrioti Scholarship Fund is an organization that supports Albanian education within the Albanian Community and provides academic scholarships to Albanian students seeking higher education.

The Collab Foundation

The Collab Foundation is a community outreach and empowerment organization that aims to positively impact the Metro Detroit community through scholarship, mentorship, fellowship, community activism, as well as social outreach.

Sister Judie’s Outreach

Sister Judie’s mission is to feed the homeless and underprivileged in the Eastern Market area of Detroit.

Given DTE’s culture of volunteerism and community partnership, this contest continues the company’s aspiration to be best for the world, serving as a force for growth across Michigan.
