Former Mayor Bing’s BINGO mentoring program celebrates MLK Day with the Detroit Pistons

BingoIn honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Bing Youth Institute and the Detroit Pistons hosted the BINGO (Boys Inspired Through Nurturing, Growth and Opportunities) Mentees and Mentors at a special private lunch in the President’s Club followed by attendance at the nationally televised Pistons versus Chicago Bulls basketball game on Monday, January 18th.

This special celebration event was attended by nearly two hundred African American young men in the 7th through 10th grades, mostly from DPS Schools and their Mentors.  The Mentors included many corporate executives, lawyers, medical professionals, police officers and entrepreneurs.

In addition to a private lunch and Pistons’ game, the group was treated to words of encouragement and support from several NBA dignitaries including: NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Piston’s Owner Tom Gores and new Piston’s CEO, Arn Tellum.

THE MISSION: BINGO’S mission is to create a meaningful mentoring experience that will help to unleash the unlimited potential of urban young men of color and assist them reaching their goals and aspirations for the future. The program’s key components are: One-‐On-‐One  Mentoring,  Social Emotional Learning and BINGO Outings.
