Ford joins Michigan Congressional Black Caucus Committee in announcing 2014 Award Recipients

Seven indiv. in picFord Motor Company joined with businesses and community leaders to present the Michigan Congressional Black Caucus Reception and Motown Live Afterglow. The event honored Michigan’s leaders as part of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 44th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC), the premier gathering of African Americans in the U.S.
The Motown Live Afterglow took place at The Mead Center for American Theater, Home of the Arena Stage, on Friday, Sept. 26, during the ALC in Washington, D.C.
Among this year’s recipients was U.S. Rep. John Dingell from Michigan, who was presented with the 2014 John Conyers Jr. Public Service Award.
“It is an honor to be receiving this prestigious recognition named for my dear friend John Conyers,” said Rep. Dingell. “It has been a blessing to serve the proud people of Michigan for nearly six decades.”
Additional awards presented this year included the Champion of Justice Award, presented to The Honorable Judge Damon J. Keith; the Distinguished Business Leader Trailblazer Award, presented to Philanthropist Carol Goss; the Distinguished Corporate Citizen-Large Award, presented to MGM Resorts International; and the Distinguished Corporate Citizen-Small Award, presented to Rodgers Chevrolet.
Members of the United States Armed Forces from Michigan were also recognized with a special honor; Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. (retired) Harry T. Stewart, Jr., was presented with the Courage and Valor Award for Distinguished Military Service.
The event also recognized retiring Michigan Congressmen Mike Rogers and Dave Camp. Broadcast journalist Roland Martin was the emcee for the evening.
“Ford is proud to recognize these outstanding Michigan leaders who are committed to making positive contributions that strengthen the African American community,” said Pamela Alexander, director of community development, Ford Motor Company Fund. “We take great pride in continuing Ford’s tradition of recognizing those who inspire and empower their communities and the world.”
Each year the ALC features events to provide African American members of Congress an opportunity to discuss their work on legislative items and to engage attendees on policies that are critical to their communities.
For more than ten years, Ford Motor Company has remained committed to supporting a variety of programs during the ALC and joins in recognizing those thought-leaders that empower our community, and advocate for change in Michigan, nationally and abroad.
