Ford Celebrates Black History Month With Detroit’s Own Loni Love

Loni Love

The Ford African-Ancestry Network (FAAN) at Ford Motor Company celebrates its 42nd annual Black History Month Celebration.

“We are excited to announce our first “live” event since 2019. The celebration will highlight exceptional talent, uplift community heroes, acknowledge groundbreaking pioneers, and pay homage to those who continue to blaze the trail for justice,” FAAN noted in advisory to the Michigan Chronicle.

FAAN’s theme for the program is “Black Resilience.” Loni Love, Detroit native and two-time EMMY, two-time NAACP Image Awardee and three-time Gracie Award-winning host, comedian, actress, author, and philanthropist, will be our special guest for the evening. In addition, Darnel Blackburn, WDIV Crime and Safety Expert and Traffic Reporter, will serve as the host for the fireside chat.

Their Heritage Award, given to individuals who have a legacy of leading, giving and advocating in the community, will be awarded to Rev. Wendell Anthony, president of the Detroit branch of the NAACP and Pastor of Fellowship Chapel and Debra White-Hunt – Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Detroit Windsor Dance Academy (DWDA).

Their Community Service award, given to individuals who have had a significant impact on the community in a shorter time, will be awarded to Kirk Mayes – former CEO of Forgotten Harvest and Carla Walker-Miller, Founder and CEO Walker-Miller Energy Services.

Lastly, “Groundbreaker Award” honoree, Kyra Harris-Bolden, who was inaugurated on January 1, 2023, to the Michigan Supreme Court and is the first Black woman to serve on the high court, will receive this distinguished recognition.

The event is from 4:45 to 10 p.m. on Friday, February 24 at the Ford Motor Company Experience Center, 1151 Village Road in Dearborn. Complimentary valet will be provided.

Established in 1982, Ford African Ancestry Network (FAAN) is Ford Motor Company’s largest and most senior employee resource group. The key objectives of FAAN include Employee personal and professional development, supporting community service and serving as the voice of the constituency to senior management. Our Black History Month Celebration has become the company’s primary event to celebrate this important month.

The event is open to the public.
