When Mira Williams-Estell wants something she gets it — just like her savvy, like-minded customers.
And that unapologetic tenacity got her to the place she’s at today with her luxury handbag line. Mira Estell has designs for the equally ambitious and confident woman who wants to add some flair to her already sophisticated style.
“It adds that oomph — you feel confident rocking it,” Williams-Estell told The Michigan Chronicle. “I always say the Mira Estell woman is busy, bold, graceful and she’s stylish.”
Mira Estell luxury vegan handbags are for the ladies who imbue style and grace while rocking the handcrafted, high-quality bags that Williams-Estell said is an “extension of who you are.”
They are described as handbags that are versatile, chic with complementary sophisticated accessories that can transition from a day to evening look, and be dressed up or down.
“Our mission is to empower women with the confidence to be limitless, bold yet graceful with intrepid style,” according to its website. “For our ladies, there are no rules to fashion; just style and grace.”
Her popular “STOP” Black collection features handbags that bring awareness to the Black Lives Matter movement and help stop the injustice.
The statement BLACK STOP tote bag, BLACK Belt bag, and BLACK Karma clutch were inspired by statements like, “stop the hate,” “stop the injustice,” “stop the racism.”
A portion of the proceeds will go to an organization supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.
Williams-Estell said that around 2009 she and her husband moved here from New Jersey and she was looking for a job and had some difficulty finding one.
“I was a new mom so it was a lot going on. … Once I moved to Michigan …that is when the idea (to make handbags) came up … and produced the collection,” she said, adding that she found someone to teach her how to sew to make her handbags and cut out the expensive middleman manufacturing process.
She took sewing classes around that time and her teacher created a whole lesson plan around learning how to make chic handbags that don’t look homemade.
While she perfected that process the mother of four daughters also joined a networking group of local designers, Detroit Garment Group, she describes as her “tribe” who helped her network and more.
“The biggest thing I got from it was the opportunity to meet other designers, build that camaraderie and learn from each other … and how to navigate things I could be doing better,” she said.
Williams-Estell has since been flourishing through her contributions to the fashion industry while catering to the professional woman who is about 30 to 50 years old.
“Most of my clients are mature women who … don’t have to really question their purchases — if they like it, they buy it,” she said.
Customer Brianna Williams knows what she wants with Mira Estell, and she gets it right each time.
“They have that luxury handbag look and feel without the big price tag associated with it,” she said. “That is why I love her bags.”
Williams, who sews, herself, said that she can see the true quality in the handbags.
“I can appreciate her craftsmanship,” she said.
Williams-Estell added that it’s important to keep going on this journey to reach one’s dreams like she did. “Really trust the process — I know a lot of times I would be disappointed with things I wanted happening for me but had those things happened I might not have been prepared for them.”
Williams-Estell is ready now for the next phase and is preparing to launch her business further into the stratosphere by making her handbags known around the world.
“I always say that Mira Estell is going to be a global brand,” she said, adding that she appreciates other Black women like her in the fashion industry who are doing big things, too. “So many of us out here, we don’t always get the shine but we are literally killing it … I’m in awe.”
