Flint water crisis to come to an end?

waterThe House has signed off on $9.3 million being committed to assisting Flint in transitioning its water to Detroit to help end what has become known as the ‘Flint water crisis’.
The state will be providing $6 million dollars of that funding to get Flint’s water switched to Detroit’s source.
“This is an important step necessary to fix the current crisis, and once this is complete, it’s important that our next priority is getting to the bottom of how this happened,” said Senate Minority Leader Jim Ananich, D-Flint in a statement. “We need to make sure this never happens again.”
The 104-0 vote was an emphatic decision.
Controversy caused by the former financial manager is currently being pinned as the cause for the high lead amounts found in Flint’s public water.
“This is a public health emergency and we need to get it done,” said Rep. Al Pscholka, R-Stevensville, who chairs the House Appropriations Committee, said last week.
The House moved quickly in light of Governor Rick Snyder’s announcements last week regarding the issue. Snyder is on record saying he believes the state should pay half of the cost to switch the water supply to Detroit.
The state is expecting to undergo an investigation as to how to public health crisis was caused.
“It’s in the state’s best interests to ask these questions, but we have to do it quickly,” Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Dave Hildenbrand, R-Lowell. “It’s a public health emergency.”
