The grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, August 23, marking an exciting addition to the city’s vibrant culinary scene.

The event will feature NBA legend and 55th Mayor of Sacramento, Kevin Johnson, the owner of Fixins Soul Kitchen. Johnson will be joined by prominent figures, including Rev. Charles Christian Adams of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, award-winning architect Rainy Hamilton Jr. of Hamilton Anderson Associates, and Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield, representing District 5. Together, they will welcome Fixins Soul Kitchen to the community, emphasizing the restaurant’s commitment to preserving and redefining the soul food experience.

Located at 1435 Randolph Street, Fixins Detroit is nestled in the historic Paradise Valley neighborhood, once a bustling business district and entertainment hub in the early 20th century. The area was home to Black Bottom, a thriving Black residential neighborhood that played a pivotal role in Detroit’s cultural heritage. The opening of Fixins Soul Kitchen pays tribute to this legacy, bringing a modern twist to classic soul food while honoring the traditions that shaped the community.

Founded in 2019 by Kevin Johnson and his wife Michelle, Fixins Soul Kitchen is the culmination of Johnson’s deep love for Black culture and Michelle’s passion for exceptional food. The menu features family-favorite recipes and mouthwatering dishes like signature chicken and waffles, oxtails, shrimp & grits, and deep-fried deviled eggs, all made from scratch. The Detroit location spans 8,400 square feet and offers seating for 325 guests, ensuring a welcoming and spacious dining environment.
