First Independence Bank Appoints Dimitrius M. Hutcherson as President

First Independence Bank has taken a significant step in its organizational restructuring process by naming Dimitrius M. Hutcherson as its new president. Hutcherson, a seasoned banking leader who has been with the bank since 2020, will now directly report to Kenneth Kelly, the bank’s Chairman & CEO.

In his expanded role, Hutcherson will spearhead internal bank compliance and regulatory activities, as well as take charge of the budgeting and strategic planning process. His responsibilities will extend to the day-to-day operations of the bank, involving collaboration with key stakeholders such as regional and large banks, corporate partnerships, and retail customers.

Kenneth Kelly, Chairman & CEO of First Independence Bank, expressed enthusiasm about Hutcherson’s appointment, stating, “I am excited to see Dimitrius appointed to this role. He is the epitome of a hard-working individual from the east side of Detroit who has gone beyond the grounds of Morehouse College and Harvard Business School to make a difference in his hometown as we continue to grow.”

Kelly further highlighted Hutcherson’s empathic leadership experience and skills in six-sigma as valuable assets to the team and the banking industry. He emphasized that Hutcherson’s accomplishments align with the core values of First Independence Bank, benefiting employees, customers, and stakeholders.

In addition to his presidency, Hutcherson will collaborate closely with the bank’s CFO to ensure superior management of budget objectives. His role will encompass overseeing the bank’s management and operations, establishing banking policies and objectives, and developing new products and services for clients and customers.

With over 30 years of banking experience, Hutcherson previously held the positions of Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Technology Officer at First Independence Bank for the past four years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in finance from Morehouse College and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Beyond his role at First Independence Bank, Hutcherson is actively involved in various boards, including Internet Sciences, the Michigan Strategic Fund, Michigan Roundtable, and most recently, Vertus Energy.
