Final Yard Waste Collection in Detroit to Begin on December 11

The City of Detroit’s Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced the commencement of the final yard waste collection for the year, starting Monday, December 11. This marks the beginning of the last two-week cycle for yard waste pick-up, crucial for residents to note as the service will not resume until April 2024.

Residents are advised to put out all remaining yard waste, including bagged leaves and appropriately bundled brush, on their regularly scheduled pick-up dates between December 11 and December 22. This period serves as the last opportunity for Detroiters who have their bulk/yard waste collection scheduled in the week of December 11.

The DPW also highlighted changes in the schedule due to upcoming holidays. With Christmas and New Year’s Day falling on weekdays this year, trash, recycling, and bulk pickups will be postponed by one day. Additionally, the city will conduct special collections of Christmas trees from January 2 to 12.

To ensure residents are informed and prepared, the city has provided resources for checking collection dates. Individuals can visit the official website at www.detroitmi.gov and use the “My Home info” field to find their scheduled collection dates. Moreover, the DPW is offering a convenient text alert service. Residents can receive reminders by texting their street address to 313-800-7905, ensuring they don’t miss their scheduled pickups.

This final yard waste collection cycle is a part of the city’s ongoing efforts to maintain cleanliness and environmental responsibility. Residents are encouraged to take full advantage of this service before the winter hiatus.
