Fifth Third Bank (Eastern Michigan) is highlighting its annual hunger fighting initiative by presenting the Fifth Third Bank Feeding Our Communities Celebration Featuring the Motor City PraiseFest Preview. This Gospel Music showcase, hosted by Gospel Radio Personality Dr. Deborah Smith Pollard, will feature some of the Midwest’s most accomplished singers. The praise fest will take place from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 3 at Hart Plaza and will be headlined by four-time Grammy award winner Karen Clark Sheard. Admission is free.
In addition to music it will serve as a fundraising and food collection event to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.

The Fifth Third Bank Feeding Our Communities Celebration Featuring the Motor City PraiseFest Preview is part of an annual holiday unique to Fifth Third Bank, which is Fifth Third Day or 5/3 on the calendar. It is a time when the Bank honors its customers, community and colleagues in a weeklong celebration called the Fifth Third Week of Giving. The idea is to give back to those that have given so much to the success of Fifth Third Bank. The theme the past couple years has been alleviating hunger.
“Fifth Third Bank’s unique brand and name provides an opportunity for our team members to unite and rally to improve this lives of those in our community,” said David Girodat, president and CEO of Fifth Third Bank Eastern Michigan. “Feeding our communities has historically been the focus of Fifth Third Day, which makes Gleaners the ideal beneficiary of our inaugural Hart Plaza event.”
Gleaners agreed the partnership is mutually beneficial.

For 2015 Fifth Third Bank has quite a line-up of activities that engage employees, reach out to customers and serve as the perfect expression of their mission to ‘continually improve lives and the wellbeing of our communities.’
Feeding our Communities – Employees are raising funds for Gleaners Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan by acknowledging each other through the sales of Shields of Recognition. Teams of Fifth Third employees will also be volunteering at local food banks all week.
Employee Involvement Grants – 50 nonprofit organizations will receive $530 grants from Fifth Third Bank on behalf of employees who volunteer their time with them through the Employee Involvement Grant program. The program is designed to provide needed support to local non-profits and as an acknowledgement to those employees who volunteer their time in the community. Check presentations take place over the next two weeks.
eBus Spring Preview Tour – For the first time ever, Fifth Third Bank’s eBus mobile outreach center, will be part of Fifth Third Day, embarking on a weeklong Spring Preview tour to provide financial and social services and collect donations for Gleaners. It will visit a variety of Detroit communities from May 1-6.
The Fifth Third Bank Feeding Our Communities Celebration Featuring the Motor City PraiseFest Preview will be the official kick-off event to Fifth Third Bank’s 5/3 in the D initiative, which is an $85 million commitment to Detroit. It includes moving its headquarters to the historic One Woodward Building. Other components involve charitable donations, marketing sponsorships, small business lending, Community Development Corporation tax credit investments and economic impact contributions over the next five years. The adoption of Hart Plaza and returning it to its past glory as one of Detroit’s foremost public gathering spaces is another highlight of 5/3 in the D.
