Fifth Edition of ‘Who’s Who In Black Detroit’ now available

Hundreds gathered at the MotorCity Casino and Conference Center to celebrate the release of the fifth edition of “Who’s Who in Black Detroit.” This year’s unveiling also served as the kickoff for Freedom Weekend.
    Celebrating the  achievements of numerous notable individuals, the night was filled with great music, good food and networking among the city’s movers and shakers. This much anticipated celebration hosted an array of elected officials, dignitaries, corporate executives, entrepreneurs, community leaders, all of whom have made a significant impact on Detroit and contributed to the city’s growth and success.
    This year’s edition, which carried a new and unique look, paid special tribute to Black philanthropy and highlights individuals and organizations that are leaders in giving back.  Greetings were brought by the publication’s foreword writer, Jon E. Barfield, chairman and president of The Bartech Group and introduction writer, Linda Forté, senior vice president and chief diversity officer at Comerica Bank.
    “It was a wonderful evening and I really appreciated the support of everyone who attended,” said Cathy Nedd, publisher of “Who’s Who in Black Detroit.”
    “It was especially good to celebrate the generosity of Detroit in ‘Who’s Who,’ a tribute that was long overdue.”
    Supporters of the publication include:  Comerica Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Health Alliance Plan, The Bartech Group, The Skillman Foundation, Bank of America, Trinity Health System, DTE Energy, St. John Providence Health System and many more.
    On behalf of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, a special plaque was presented to Equilla Wainwright, vice president of diversity and community responsibility, because of the company’s continued support since the inaugural edition of “Who’s Who in Black Detroit.”
