Fashion Designer Kevan Hall to showcase his latest creations at the 44th Anniversary Black United Funds Gala

Detroit’s native son Kevan Hall – an internationally known women’s fashion designer and go-to stylist for the A-list Hollywood stars – will be back in his home city to showcase his latest designs and pick up a special award along the way.
More than 20 models on a New York style runway will showcase Hall’s latest creations at the Black United Fund (BUF) of Michigan’s annual benefit gala – Galaxy Ball – Fashion at the BUF, on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Detroit Marriott, Renaissance Center. The event is designed to give “fashion enthusiasts” an exciting and visual feast that combines the spirit of giving back to the community with a little glitz and glamour. Afterwards, Hall will be presented with the 2014 Ambassador of Style Award.
Hall, a Detroit Cass Technical High School and Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising graduate has received rave reviews for his fashions from celebrities he has dressed for the Emmys, Academy Awards and other special high-profile events. Hall’s haute couture gowns have been commissioned by A-listers such as Salma Hayek, Celine Dion, Vanessa Williams, the first lady, Michelle Obama, and many others.
The evening will not only salute this iconic fashion designer, but also pay homage to noteworthy companies and individuals that support the Detroit-based non-profit organization’s ongoing mission for the last 44 years to provide funding and support to community based non-profits, including start-ups, that focus on Education, Community Development, Cultural Enrichment and Economic Development in Michigan’s diverse community.
“Kevan Hall has dressed the best with his unique, classic designs and we are looking forward to this exciting new twist to our annual gala event,” said BUF of Michigan’s Executive Director, Ken Donaldson. “This year’s co-chairs, Charles Burn II and Gerald Smith, have created what will assuredly be the best benefit to date. Their new vision and concept for the Galaxy Ball will deliver an exciting evening for all, but most important raise much need funds to continue to allow us to support and empower our communities.
In 2011, Hall launched his first bridal collection called Kevan Hall White Label, in New York, and in 2013 he designed Kevan Hall INSPRIRATION, a collection of dresses and separates for QVC UK.
“I enjoy the process of design from concept to execution,” he states. “But the most gratifying part is seeing a design come to life on a beautiful woman.”
Hall first studied fashion design at Cass Tech and then earned a scholarship sponsored by the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. In 1989, the NAACP named him the “Great American Designer,” and in 2005, Life & Style Magazine named him “Stylemaker of the Year.” Hall continued to receive numerous prestigious awards, over the years, and in 2002 he launched his own signature collection that “emphasizes purity of style, incomparable tailoring and sensuously draped streamlined silhouettes,” according to his website.
He has been featured in countless magazines and national TV shows such as Kimora Lee Simmons: Life in the Fab Lane and America’s Top Model.
Galaxy Ball Co-Chairs, Burns II, General Manager, Chevrolet Belle Isle Grand Prix and Smith, Vice President, Comcast Cable both expressed their commitment to raise funds and build on the BUF’s rich history of providing opportunities to empower local communities through its giving platform where entrepreneurs and organizations are given a chance to realize their dreams and gain control of their lives and have an innovative fresh start.
“This unique event experience gives our partners and guests an opportunity to connect with the greater Metropolitan Detroit community and show their support for an important cause and have fun doing it,” said Burns II.
