Eugenie Detroit and RATHAUS Films Award $10,000 Grants to Local Creatives Promoting Sustainability

Eugenie Detroit and RATHAUS Films are excited to reveal the recipients of their inaugural joint grant initiative, aimed at supporting local artists, designers, and filmmakers committed to environmental responsibility and social impact. Following a rigorous two-round selection process, industry leaders chose Timothy Clark, founder of ROUGH–DRAFT®, and independent filmmaker Jofre Beltran as the deserving winners of the $10,000 award.

The grant, a testament to Eugenie and RATHAUS Films’ commitment to fostering positive change, empowers the recipients to bring their visions to life while driving sustainable practices in their respective industries. Clark and Beltran’s projects stood out for their dedication to holistic living, environmental awareness, and addressing unique aspects of Detroit’s identity.

ROUGH–DRAFT® by Timothy Clark seeks to activate people’s connection to the outdoors, promoting a lifestyle that seamlessly blends urban and natural environments. Aki Choklat, Panel Member and Linda Dresner Endowed Chair of Fashion Design at the College for Creative Studies, commended ROUGH–DRAFT® for being a meaningful collection that encourages a deeper connection with nature.

Jofre Beltran’s project, “City, No Motor,” will explore the experiences of Detroiters navigating the city without a car. By incorporating stories of those who rely on public transportation, bicycles, or walking, the film delves into their role in the city’s future identity and their place in a landscape not initially designed for them. Kevin Steen, RATHAUS Films and Eugenie Co-Founder, expressed excitement about supporting Beltran’s independent and raw artistic spirit.

As part of the grant package, Clark and Beltran will receive one-on-one mentorship sessions from industry experts. Clark, focusing on Detroit’s fashion industry, will be mentored by Aki Choklat, Ben Ewy, Deb Ferraro, Jen Guarino, Roslyn Karamoko, Tracy Reese, and Eugenie co-founder Gretchen Valade. Beltran will receive guidance from RATHAUS jurors and filmmakers, including Alexandra Byer, Shabier Kirchner, Inney Prakash, Diana Peralta, Cedric Cheung-Lau, Lara Sfire, and Eugenie and RATHAUS co-founder Kevin Steen.

Beyond mentorship, Clark will have the opportunity to showcase his project at a special event hosted by Eugenie, providing a platform to present his collection to a curated audience of Eugenie customers, industry professionals, and sustainable fashion enthusiasts. Eugenie aims to elevate the winner’s profile and facilitate meaningful connections within Detroit’s fashion community.

Eugenie and RATHAUS Films take pride in supporting talented individuals dedicated to creating longevity in Detroit’s creative industries. Through the combination of financial resources and professional mentorship, the Eugenie and RATHAUS grant empowers these individuals to fuel local artistry and innovation, contributing to a sustainable and vibrant creative community.
