Michiganders are gearing up for Election Day and state officials are preparing for a voter turnout unlike any in recent years.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson visited the Northwest Activities Center Monday, a Detroit satellite voting location where citizens can register to vote, retrieve or return a ballot and find strict COVID-19 safety protocols in place.
“As of Oct. 26, three million Michigan citizens have requested absentee ballots and nearly 400,000 have been returned,” Benson said.
Benson has estimated that the state’s contribution to the election will be more accurately recorded after Election Day.
“Our estimate is Friday (Nov. 6, 2020) before we can ensure all these ballots will be tabulated and processed,” she said.
State officials are hoping to increase the convenience of voting for Michiganders by placing applications in essential establishments.
