EcoWorks Announces New Executive Director, Briana DuBose

EcoWorks, a nonprofit organization at the forefront of combining community development with sustainability, has officially appointed Briana DuBose as their new Executive Director. With her tenure at EcoWorks beginning in 2017 as the Director of Strategic Community Initiatives, DuBose is set to bring her extensive experience in climate justice and sustainability to this new role.

DuBose is recognized for her significant contributions to Detroit’s climate and sustainability sectors. Her career, spanning more than twenty years, showcases her ability to blend analytical skills with operational expertise in crafting and implementing community-centric programs that tackle environmental and societal issues.

In her new role, DuBose will oversee EcoWorks’ strategic vision, program design, team leadership, community development initiatives, and fundraising efforts.

Scott Beckerman, Board Chairman and Director of Corporate Sustainability at Comerica Bank, expressed the board’s enthusiasm: “The EcoWorks Board of Directors is thrilled to support Briana as our new executive director. At this pivotal time, her experience, leadership, and influence will be key catalysts as we accelerate our work toward a just transition to a greener community.”

DuBose’s commitment to environmental justice is evident in her innovative projects, notably the Climate Equity Advisory Council, a collaboration with the City of Detroit. This council focuses on creating a community-driven emission reduction strategy, with a special emphasis on aiding BIPOC households disproportionately affected by high-energy costs and climate change.

Her career trajectory reflects her deep commitment to marginalized communities, beginning in administrative law and business operations with Fortune 500 companies, then transitioning to non-profit leadership. Her work at the Circuit Court of Cook County Family Law Bureau in Illinois involved supporting abused and neglected children, while her time at Wayne County in Michigan saw her serving marginalized communities, earning recognition from the National Association of Counties (NACO).

DuBose’s experiences across municipal and private sectors have equipped her with unique insights into non-profit leadership, focusing on creating solutions for underrepresented communities. Known for her operational expertise, budget management, and advocacy for racial justice and equity initiatives, DuBose has become a prominent figure in sustainable community development.

Expressing her dedication to her new role, DuBose stated, “I am honored to lead our efforts in fostering sustainable community development in the heart of Detroit. Our commitment remains unwavering, as we continue to build a stronger, more resilient community that thrives on the principles of sustainability, equity, and empowerment. Together, we will drive transformative change and create lasting impact for all Detroiters.”

Briana DuBose is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where she earned a Juris Doctorate degree and a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing & Communications.
