Rhonda Welsh was a Custer Elementary School student when she joined thousands of other Detroit Public Schools students by buying a brick to help build the Charles H. Wright Museum’s new facility. She has been hooked on building the community ever since. Welsh now serves as executive director for Detroit Outreach at Central Michigan University where she oversees the Detroit Strategy for the President’s Office. She has extensive experience in community relations, media relations, marketing communications and training and development. She holds both a BA in English and an MA in public relations and organizational communication from Wayne State University. She has held high profile positions at Wayne State University, College for Creative Studies, St. John Health (now Ascension) and University Liggett School. She serves on the Regional Detroit Board for Read to A Child, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Classical Roots Steering Committee, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Advocacy Advisory Council and as a volunteer with the Rhonda Walker Foundation. An avid arts and culture buff, she enjoys studying French, creative writing, DJing House Music and performing poetry.
