Melani Bender-Ivery

Melani Bender-Ivery holds the position as District Controller and Associate Vice Chancellor at Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD). Bender-Ivery’s responsibilities include budget development for a multi-campus institution and the financial monitoring, reporting and compliance of the District’s general and restricted fund budgets. Bender-Ivery graduated from Cass Technical High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Michigan State University and a Master of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University.

Bender-Ivery’s notable memberships and accomplishments include: the American Association for Women in Community Colleges 40 under 40 award recipient; National Association of Black Accountants; National Black MBA Association; Michigan ACE Women’s Network; Michigan Community College Business Officers Association; and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. Bender-Ivery’s has also co-authored the children’s book “Where Is Grandma?” and published the article,”Building Trust through Communication in a Multi-Cultural Environment: A Six-Point Strategy”.

A strong proponent of education and family values, Bender-Ivery defines success as maximizing her potential and helping others in a meaningful way. Her dream for community colleges is helping people achieve better lives.
