Judge Edward Ewell attended the University of Michigan majoring in Economics. He pursued a Master’s of Science program from Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA. He then attended Wayne State University Law School before clerking for the late Honorable Damon J. Keith of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

During his tenure in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, he was also responsible for prosecuting criminal civil rights violations.  Judge Ewell was then appointed general counsel for Wayne County. He managed a municipal corporate law office which handled an array of lawsuits and claims against the county as well as development projects.

In August 2003, Governor Jennifer Granholm appointed Judge Ewell to the Third Judicial Circuit Court of Michigan. He was recently recommended for appointment to the U. S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan by the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Judge Ewell lives in Detroit with his wife of thirty-three years, Cooley Law Professor Florise Neville-Ewell. They have two grown children.
