In June, Southeast Michigan experienced temperatures in the mid-90s for multiple days in a row. In all kinds of extreme weather, safety is DTE’s top priority, so the company stepped up to make sure Detroit customers stayed safe and cool during the heat wave.
DTE coordinated bottled water drop offs to community locations across Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, Washtenaw and Monroe counties, totaling 100,000 bottles of water delivered to more than 30 partners. In the city of Detroit alone, DTE delivered nearly 65,000 bottles of water to 12 community partners, including LA SED, Northwest Activity Center, Detroit Rescue Mission and more. The company also distributed hundreds of fans to non-profits to keep the community cool.
The DTE Foundation also partnered with United Way for Southeastern Michigan to provide 500 rides to cooling centers for residents in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and Lapeer counties. This ensured the most vulnerable had a safe, cool place to wait out the heat.
Extremely hot weather can bring on dangerous storms in Michigan. Throughout the week, crews were staged and ready to resolve outages that occurred due to severe pop-up storms across DTE’s service territory. DTE’s Storm Response Teams worked around the clock to restore service to customers, and brought in crews from Ohio, Illinois and Indiana to help speed restoration.
The high heat is expected to continue throughout Michigan this summer. DTE’s team stands ready to support customers in the communities where we live and serve.
