“The DSO at Ford House concerts are a perfect example of what we love to do most at the DSO, mean more to more people through innovative programming in exciting and creative venues,” said DSO Executive Vice President Paul Hogle. “We look forward to a bright future with Ford House.”
The two-night concert series, led by conductor Edwin Outwater, began on Friday, July 12 at 8 p.m. with “The Golden Age of Swing,” and featured clarinetist Dave Bennett performing hits by Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and George Gershwin. On Saturday, July 13 “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” concluded the series with a magical evening of classical music inspired by Shakespeare, including excerpts from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture.
The DSO’s Summer Season began with a packed house for the Summer Celebration concert on June 26, followed by Salute to America (the DSO’s annual Independence Day celebration), DSO at Ford House, and a sold-out, one-night-only appearance by Natalie Merchant.
This year’s Salute to America concerts, which took place July 3-6, marked the 21st anniversary of the DSO’s collaboration with Greenfield Village and was the third-highest grossing since its inception.
The Summer Season will conclude this week with the Neighborhood Summer Festival, when the DSO performs at four neighborhood venues across southeast Michigan. For a complete schedule, or to purchase tickets, visit dso.org/neighborhood.
