All 97 Detroit Public Schools will be open to the public for open houses and enrollment fairs after school on Wednesday, April 29, to showcase their offerings for Fall 2015.
The “DPS After-School Open Doors Day” is part of a series of events that seek to invite parents who have not yet selected a school for their children to tour schools and make a selection for Fall 2015. Schools will be open for two hours after their regular school day. Families looking to enroll their children in Pre-Kindergarten can also gain valuable information at the school sites.
Times will vary depending on the end of the school day at each school. Go to detroitk12.org/schools to see a complete list of schools.
“We are pleased to be able to offer families these enrollment opportunities earlier in the school year than in past years so that they may plan for the fall,” said Superintendent of Academics Karen Ridgeway. “Confirming enrollment in our schools before the end of the current school year also allows our district to better plan for the start of the upcoming school year and ensure a smooth first day.”
In addition to confirming that all 97 programs will be open this fall and that no school closures will occur, the district is planning an announcement within the next two weeks regarding new and enhanced programs designed to increase student achievement and attract and retain families.
