DPS' For the Teachers, By the Teachers hosts first annual appreciation gala

Detroit_Public_Schools_logoFor the Teachers, By the Teachers,” a newly formed entity, comprised of enthusiastic Detroit Public Schools Teachers, will celebrate the contributions of all DPS educators at the First Annual Teachers’ Appreciation Gala Saturday, June 13. The purpose of this gala is to celebrate DPS educators who have made the commitment to educate the talented young scholars of Detroit.
Leading up to the first ever event, teacher committees were formed to help develop new and exciting ways to promote the group as well as methods to continuously highlight DPS teachers. At the event, pledges of support will be made by dedicated teachers whose main focus is to lead Detroit students to a future of success.
According to Committee Chairperson Talisha Hurks it is imperative that this celebratory event is presented as a “thank you” to the teachers of Detroit Public Schools for their continued dedication and commitment to the students.
“This event is important because we work tirelessly educating our students and we aren’t often recognized for going above and beyond the call of duty for our students,” Hurks said. “This event will honor and recognize our contributions to our students, boost teacher morale and make teachers feel a sense of appreciation for their services.”
The First Annual Teachers’ Appreciation Gala will be held Saturday, June 13, 7-11 p.m. at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Detroit – Dearborn located at 5801 Southfield Expressway, Dearborn, MI 48126.
