Each week of the school year, the Michigan Lottery has recognized outstanding K-12 teachers and staff who are making a significant impact in the lives of Michigan students. Weekly awardees are selected for their excellence, dedication, inspiration, leadership, and effectiveness. The overall Educator of the Year is selected from the pool of weekly Excellence in Education winners. The award includes a $10,000 grand prize.
Michael Craig teaches Horticulture at the Drew Transition Center, a garden cultivation and management program. The program now reaches out beyond students to include staff and the community. With guidance from Craig, the creation of the “Drew Farmstand” was developed and has introduced entrepreneurship to the students in his class.
