Downtown Security Officers in Halloween Costumes to Tell their Scary Security Stories About Detroit’s Most Prominent Bedrock Buildings

Security officers are joining the fight for One Detroit, a city in which all working families can make ends meet with good union jobs and at least $15. Last summer, Local 1 janitors won a path to a $15 wage with a good, union contract, to help support their families. It’s time working people throughout Detroit enjoy the same.

On Wednesday, October 30 at 12pm, security officers in Halloween costumes, SEIU Local 1 janitors, community allies and labor leaders will rally in front of One Campus Martius to continue the fight for a voice on the job and good union jobs for all hardworking Detroiters, including security officers.

Nearly a year after first kicking off their fight, security officers are gathering to reveal the spooky, yet real, tales of deceit and safety issues they experience on the job. As rally participants dress in Halloween costumes, Local 1 superhero, 1D Woman, will also be making her debut to protect security officers and the community from irresponsible developers like Bedrock. The event comes on the heels of the ProPublica article titled “How a Tax Break to Help the Poor Went to NBA Owner Dan Gilbert,” highlighting how downtown Detroit districts containing Bedrock development projects are benefiting from tax breaks intended to help the poor.

While it is their responsibility and commitment to protect citizens at some of downtown Detroit’s most prominent buildings, such as One Campus Martius, First National, and 1001 Woodward, security officers are forced to work under unsafe conditions that put themselves and building tenants at risk every day.
