Downtown Detroit Partnership Presents: Campus Kids Day Back-to-School Bash Supporting Detroit’s Families

On August 18th, Detroit’s Campus Martius Park will transform into a hub of community support and preparation as families from across the city gather for the Campus Kids Day’s Back to School Bash, presented by Corewell Health. This event, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offers more than just a day of entertainment—it’s a vital opportunity for families to gear up for the upcoming school year with the resources and support they need.

As the new school year approaches, many families find themselves balancing the excitement of a fresh start with the challenges of preparing their children for success. The costs of school supplies, coupled with the ongoing demands of everyday life, can be overwhelming for some. Recognizing this, the Back to School Bash is stepping in to provide a tangible helping hand. The first 200 children to arrive will receive a free backpack, easing the financial burden for parents and ensuring that more kids can start the school year ready to learn.

But the impact of this event goes beyond the material. The day’s activities are designed to bring families together in a supportive environment, reflecting the diverse and vibrant culture of Detroit. Live performances by local youth groups like the Motor City Street Dance Academy and the Sowande Keita Youth Drummers and Dancers will take center stage, offering not just entertainment, but a celebration of the talent and cultural richness within our community. DJ Invisible will keep the energy high, providing the soundtrack for a day that promises to be both fun and meaningful.

In addition to the performances, children can engage in hands-on activities that foster creativity and learning. Stations for making custom bracelets, designing backpack tags, and participating in a book giveaway add an educational twist to the day’s festivities. These activities are not just about keeping kids entertained—they are about sparking creativity and encouraging a love for learning that will carry into the school year.

Corewell Health, a key partner in this initiative, will have staff on-site to provide wellness information and resources. This is part of a broader effort to ensure that families have access to the support they need for both academic and personal well-being. Health and education go hand in hand, and this event is a reminder of the importance of addressing both as we prepare our children for the future.

Campus Kids Day is one of the many initiatives spearheaded by the Downtown Detroit Partnership to create spaces where community members can come together and support one another. The Back to School Bash is a prime example of this mission in action—an event that brings families together in a meaningful way, helping to strengthen the bonds that make our community resilient.

As the date approaches, the Downtown Detroit Partnership is encouraging families to mark their calendars and attend this impactful event. Whether it’s through the backpack giveaway, the live performances, or the wellness resources, the Back to School Bash is designed to meet the needs of Detroit’s families as they prepare for the school year ahead.

In a time when community support is more important than ever, the Campus Kids Day’s Back to School Bash offers a moment for Detroiters to come together, celebrate, and ensure that every child has the opportunity to start the school year on the right foot. This event is a reminder that when we come together as a community, we can make a real difference in the lives of our children and set them up for success in the year ahead.
