Dosunmu Nails Game-Winner, lifts No. 21 Illinois over Michigan 64-62

Led by Ayo Dosunmu’s 27 points and 7 rebounds, No.21 Illinois (15-5) defeated Michigan 64-62 (11-8), handing Michigan their fourth straight loss. This loss also drops the Wolverines to 3-6 in the Big Ten. Dosunmu hit the go-ahead jumper with .5 sec remaining to give the Fighting Illini their 15th win on the season. This win also puts Illinois first in the Big Ten (7-3), breaking their tie with Michigan State.

Michigan was led by Zavier Simpson, who tallied 17 points and 3 assists. Franz Wagner and Jon Teske both had 12 points apiece, with both combining for 13 rebounds. The game went down to the wire, seeing both teams trading baskets. With 2:25 left in the game, Michigan’s David DeJulius put them ahead 62-60 with a clutch jumper. However, this game came down to free throws. Franz Wagner missing two free throws in the final seconds gave Illinois hope, as guard Trent Frazier tied the game 62 apiece with a pair of free throws, setting up Dosunmu’s game-winner.

This game also marked the return of Michigan forward Isaiah Livers.

Livers, who was out of action for six games due to a groin injury, struggled in his return. He was 1-4 from the field in nearly 15 minutes of action. Livers appeared to re-injury himself after taking a nasty fall in the second half. He shortly returned to the Michigan bench, appearing to be fine.

Michigan will be back in action this Tuesday as they face Nebraska at 7 PM.
