This month and next, the state’s Department of Natural Resources Recreation 101 Program will be offering free camping and fishing classes for youth.
The introductory classes will be held at Belle Isle Park. Registration ends July 23.
The first class, Intro to Fishing, will be held on July 24 and will include morning and afternoon sessions, 10 a.m to Noon and 1 – 3 p.m.
The second and third classes, Intro to Fishing and Camping, will be offered on August 7 and 8 at the White House on the isle at 6 p.m.
The classes will teach children the basics of safe fishing and how to maintain a clean campsite. Parents or guardians must accompany children to participate.
All vehicles entering Belle Isle are required to have a state park recreational passport, which can be purchased at entry to the island.
