On Saturday, July 23, DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital, along with our partners – the American Heart Association and the DMC Guild – will be throwing the Heart of the Neighborhood Party & Bike Tour to celebrate and encourage our neighbors in northwest Detroit to adopt a healthier lifestyle – both with activities and eating habits.
“We’re inviting everyone to bring their whole family to the hospital for a day of FREE heart-healthy fun,” said Sinai-Grace CEO Paula Autry, FACHE. “It’s going to be a great day for the community to learn more about heart health and find out fun, simple ways they can strengthen their heart and prevent heart disease.”
We’ll begin the day at 7:30 a.m. with check-in for participants in the first-ever Sinai-Grace Bike Tour, as well as free bike checks provided by The Hub/Back Alley Bikes. We’re offering two options for the Tour – a five-mile and a 12-mile route – both down historic West Outer Drive. At 8:15 a.m. there will be a 10-minute warm up for riders led by Yoganic Flow. Then, at 8:30 a.m. the 12-mile ride begins, with the five-mile ride starting at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is required for the Bike Tour and is limited to the first 125 people. Those interested in participating can register atdmc.org/july23party.
The main event will begin at 10 a.m., with our special guest speaker – comedian, actress and heart advocate Kim Coles, known for Living Single, In Living Color and The Geena Davis Show.
At 10:45 a.m., the heart-healthy presentations and fun family activities begin. Presentation topics include: heart-healthy tips for the whole family, healthy-cooking and heart-wise grocery shopping on a budget and a yoga sampler class for all to participate (mats will be provided).
In addition to the heart-healthy presentations, there will be loads of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy, including obstacle courses, a rock wall, face painting, a trackless train and physical fitness challenges with prizes for the winners! We’ll have eight food exhibitors selling a variety of fresh foods. Attendees will also have the chance to meet Tracey McCaskill and the MIX 92.3 Crew while enjoying sounds by WMXD.
The event is FREE to the public. RSVP is preferred, but not required for party; however RSVP is mandatory for the bike ride and limited to the first 125 riders. For more information, or to register, call 888-DMC-2500 or visit dmc.org/July23party. DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is located in Detroit at the corner of Schaefer and W. Outer Drive.
