DMC CEO Resigns To Take New Role for AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division

Detroit Medical Center CEO Dr. Audrey Gregory will be leaving her position to take on a new role in the Sunshine State. She was selected for a prestigious position to becom the new president and CEO at a central Florida health system, AdventHealth. Gregory will replace David Ottati.

Dr. Gregory’s career spans decades. A 17-year tenure with Tenet Healthcare in various leadership roles ultimately culminated in a position as the Market CEO and CEO of St. Francis Hospital – Memphis for the Saint Francis Healthcare System. Joining the DMC in 2019, Gregory got to work as the President of Detroit Medical Center and CEO of DMC’s adult central campus including DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, DMC Harper University Hospital, DMC Heart Hospital, and DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital. Assuming the Chief Executive Officer of the Detroit Medical Center in January 2020, the position was met with challenges brought on by the pandemic.

The Detroit Medical Center consists of eight hospitals across metro Detroit. With Gregory resigning from her role, Chief Financial Officer Brittany Lavis will become the interim CEO of the DMC.

Now, starting tenure with AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division – North Region, Dr. Gregory will begin her new journey on October 25.

Coming into the new role is being met with excitement from colleagues who will work alongside Dr. Gregory.

On moving to Florida, Dr. Gregory is looking forward to creating relationships with Florida medical professionals.

The new role will consist of overseeing the strategic direction, development, and execution of key strategies that support the total network of care and will help build influential relationships with key constituents, community partners, and consumers in Volusia, Lake, and Flagler counties.

Dr. Gregory began her career in nursing. Studying at Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus located in Savannah, Georgia, she earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in healthcare administration. Completing her doctorate in 2011 from Lynn University in Boca Raton, Dr. Gregory set out on a career that would bring her full circle back to Florida.

Dr. Gregory has served on the Michigan Health & Hospital Association’s board of trustees and was appointed by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to the Michigan Coronavirus Task Force on Racial Disparities. Dr. Gregory also served as a member of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Executive Leadership Team and as a board member for the Detroit Regional Chamber. During the pandemic, Dr. Gregory was recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the nation’s Top 25 Minority Leaders in Healthcare and was named as one of 70 African American leaders in health care to know by Becker’s Hospital Review.
