“But still today we stand with further work before us. Last week’s Supreme Court decision to strike down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act dealt a mighty blow to our continued fight and to the very right that all men and women are equally able to exercise their right to vote. We must continue the work of those before us to ensure that justice prevails and that right is preserved for men and women of any race, color, or creed. I’m proud to again stand beside my friend and colleague John Lewis—some 50 years later—and I pledge to him and to our nation to work to bring this Congress together to swiftly resolve this injustice.”
