DI$COVER D1 Hosts 313 Day “Cash Flash” Celebration at Lola Mae’s Bistro & Bar

DI$COVER D1, a small business initiative created by the Office of Council Member James E. Tate, Jr., hosts its 11th Cash Flash event at Lola Mae’s Bistro & Bar on Wednesday, March 11th at 6 p.m. During Cash Flash events, residents have the opportunity to enjoy great food, fellowship, games and special presentations all while supporting local businesses. To date, more than 520 residents have participated in previous cash flash events with each participating business experiencing at least a 30 percent increase in sales.

“We have a plethora of valuable businesses right in our own backyards, but so many residents pass them up every day without even thinking twice about patronizing them,” said Council Member Tate, who represents Detroit City Council District 1. “Our main priority is to support the businesses that serve our community but also introduce our neighbors to the staples that are already exist here and make District 1 so unique.”

DI$COVER D1 is an expansion of D1 Discount Days which was developed by Council Member Tate in 2014 to promote businesses located in the district. DI$COVER D1 aims to encourage economic sustainability, business development and community engagement. Since inception, the initiative has hosted a number of “DI$COVER D1 Power Hour“ events – a networking opportunity for business owners, as well as an Art Crawl that featured District 1 businesses with spectacular painted murals.

In addition, DI$COVER D1 has expanded the initiative to include, www.DiscoverD1.com, the city’s only comprehensive business directory that features more than 670 businesses and faith based institutions located in City Council District 1.

“We’ve already built a strong customer base but there’s always an opportunity to grow and reach more people,” said Lola Mae’s Bistro & Bar manager, Steve Sledge. “We’re here because we want to serve this community, which is why it’s important for D1 to know who we are and what we have to offer. I can’t thank Councilman James Tate and his team enough for this opportunity to engage with the District 1 neighbors and we look forward to potentially working them again in the future.”
