Detroit’s music scene is set for an electrifying night as R&B songstress ZanYé and legendary D12 rapper Swifty McVay join forces to premiere the official music video for their soul-stirring ballad “Breathe.” This exclusive, free event will take place on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the Orchid Theatre in Ferndale, where the duo will elevate the experience with a powerful live performance, showcasing their undeniable chemistry and Detroit’s rich musical legacy.
McVay’s smooth and effortless flow harmonizes beautifully with ZanYé’s calming and warm voice. Together, they create a fantastic blend of R&B/soul and hip-hop that feels just right. Their collaboration is a true match made in music heaven.
Detroit’s own ZanYé is more than just a powerhouse vocalist; she’s a visionary artist, entrepreneur, and inspiration in the community. With a voice that embodies the rich soul of Motown and a spirit rooted in humility and gratitude, she uses her platform to uplift others and create opportunities.
As she continues to make waves in the Detroit music scene, ZanYé remains dedicated to crafting music that speaks to today’s social, economic, and spiritual challenges, carrying forward the city’s legacy of creativity and resilience.
“‘Breathe’ was written before I lived it out in real life,” says ZanYé.
“I’m now experiencing the effect of breathing and allowing myself to live love the way it should be. Collaborating with Swifty McVay is what happens when you believe and breathe. God put this together. It was effortless and divine.”

The romantic visuals, directed by Julian Washington, star Detroit actor, producer, and director LeMastor Spratling, will play ZanYé’s love interest. There is a familiar business cameo by The Vinyl Society cocktail bar owned by Dennis Archer Jr located in Paradise Valley.
Since its debut in 2016, “Breathe” has truly captivated listeners, and now it’s experiencing a revival with a remix. This fresh version showcases the incredible talents of ZanYé and McVay, co-crafted with the award-winning Anesha Moody-Birchett, celebrated for her collaborations with H.E.R. Under the expert production of Kenneth Morris, this reimagined track enriches the enchanting soundscape while keeping its ethereal spirit alive.
Rap veteran is just one of many titles used to describe McVay, a cornerstone of the legendary hip-hop group D12, who has built an impressive career spanning decades. Before joining D12, he honed his craft with Da Rabeez in the early ‘90s, later contributing to D12’s multi-platinum success with hits like “My Band” and “Purple Pills.”
Beyond the group, McVay has carved his own path with 14 solo albums, multiple mixtapes, and even an audio biography album. His talents extend beyond music, with acting credits in films like The Longest Yard and theatrical stage plays. Despite the challenges of Eminem’s hiatus and the tragic loss of Proof, Swifty and fellow D12 member Kuniva have kept the group’s legacy alive, continuing to tour globally and create new music.
McVay describes ‘Breathe’ as “the essence of someone being an inspiration of love, happiness and peace in your life, which is needed while living in a world of chaos.”
“Collaborating with Zanye on this song was a breath of fresh air (no pun intended ),” McVay said.
“It’s a blessing to collab with a talented team and be part of an undeniable vibe that I’m confident others will appreciate.”
Doors open at 7 p.m and a meet and greet with ZanYé and McVay from 7:30-8 p.m.
