Detroit Youth Choir Gains More National TV, Plans Holiday Concert

DETROIT — Detroit’s beloved Detroit Youth Choir will bring its own unique musical approach and joyous energy to the holidays this year with its annual Christmas concert on Friday, December 23rd. The concert will be held at 7pm, at Central Baptist Church (south Campus), located, at 9665 Steel in Detroit.

“For years, the Detroit Youth Choir was held an annual Christmas Concert to help showcase our talented performers by bringing in the season joy to the community, and we are proud to continue this wonderful tradition,” said Detroit Youth Choir Director Anthony White.

“Tickets are just $25 for an amazing show, and all of the proceeds go to support our operations so we can continue to provide our students with world-class training and performance opportunities,” added White.

The title of the Christmas Concert is “Joyful,” which White says reflects how audiences feel when they leave any DYC performances. Tickets for the show are available now at www.detroityouthchoir.org/events

The show will feature performances from each of the choir’s three tiers, Prime Time (top performance level), Center Stage (strong performance level), Center Stage (strong performers still with room to grow) and Limelight (first time performers). Musical selections will include many standard Christmas and spiritual songs, with many adapted with DYC’s unique style and energy.

Coming Soon…DYC on AGT All Stars and Disney+!

The concert will take place less than two weeks before America’s Got Talent All Stars premieres, which will feature the DYC in a return visit to the show that brought them to the national stage with their Golden Buzzer moment and trip to the finals of Season 14 of AGT in 2019. On AGT All Stars, the choir competed against 60 acts from around the world, including Britain Australia, Germany, Romania, Ukraine, India, Philippines, Canada, Belgium and the Dominican Republic, among others, that either won the competition, were runners up or just and fan favorites.

The Detroit Youth Choir also is the subject of a six-episode documentary series titled, “Choir” that will air on Disney+ starting in late Spring 2023. The series will follow the choir members, director Anthony White and choir staff as all prepare for a once in a lifetime, special-invitation performance at Carnegie Hall, one of the world’s most legendary performance venues.
