The City of Detroit Health Department is asking Detroit Whole Foods customers to pay close attention to any possible COVID-19-related symptoms after a recent store outbreak.
The department released a public health notification on February 27 regarding a COVID-19 outbreak at Whole Foods on Mack Avenue in Detroit.
“Because of a high incidence of COVID-19 cases among employees at Whole Foods, Mack Avenue, the Detroit Health Department is advising that anyone who shopped at that location during the period beginning approximately February 12, 2021, through February 22, 2021, to monitor their health for symptoms of COVID-19,” according to the notification posted here.
Anyone experiencing symptoms (such as shortness of breath, fever, cough, aching, chills, loss of taste, or sense of smell) should isolate at home and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen. Anyone who would like a test may obtain one up to 14 days after possible exposure. Call 313-230-0505 to make an appointment at the Joseph Walker Williams Recreation Center, 8431 Rosa Parks Blvd.
As of February 27, a total of 24 employees have tested positive (out of nearly 200 employees per a published report). No customers have contracted the disease as a result of this outbreak per the notification.
The Detroit Health Department is continuing to work closely with Whole Foods to make vaccines available to all grocery store employees, monitor procedures at that location, and ensure safety precautions are being followed. No employee will be permitted to enter the facility or return to work until they have completed their quarantine or isolation, are symptom-free, and have been tested.
“In the meantime, we want to remind everyone to take precautions to protect your health and the health of those around you: stay home if you are sick and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen. Wear a mask, avoid crowds, observe social distancing and wash hands frequently,” per the post.
Also, the COVID-19 vaccine is available to grocery store workers and other frontline workers, as well as Detroiters ages 60 and up at a variety of locations in Detroit.
