In a spirited last push to energize early voters, Detroit Vs. Everybody founder Tommey Walker Jr. and influential emcee Terrance “TG” Grantham hosted a Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Happy Hour for the Harris-Walz campaign today in Detroit. The event featured a fireside chat with Tony West, Vice President Kamala Harris’ brother-in-law, offering timely insights just before early voting kicks off on October 19.

Detroit Vs. Everybody founder Tommey Walker Jr. expressed that when he read through [VP Harris’ Opportunity Agenda for Black Men], something grabbed his attention and that Harris would create situations where Black entrepreneurs could take care of their parents into retirement.

“And that really struck a chord with me because, you know, being a Black man in society, you want to take care of your parents… it just really makes me feel good to think that the Vice President cares, you know, about my real-life worries,” Walker Jr. said.

At the event, the men highlighted the election’s stakes for Black Michiganders and discussed Vice President Harris’ Opportunity Agenda for Black Men and her plans to help Black communities thrive by bringing down costs, investing in entrepreneurs, and creating good-paying jobs.

The speakers will also underscore the threat that Donald Trump’s extreme Project 2025 agenda poses to Black communities, raising costs by nearly $4,000 a year for typical families, terminating the Affordable Care Act, allowing employers to stop paying many workers overtime pay, and more.

The fireside chat is part of an ongoing initiative called “Black Men Huddle Ups,” organized by the Harris-Walz campaign. This series aims to unite Black men from various communities in key battleground states to discuss critical issues and foster solidarity.

Earlier this week, a successful gathering took place in Flint, where Black men shared their experiences and engaged in meaningful dialogue about the challenges they face and the importance of collective action in the upcoming elections.

Tony West, Vice President Harris’ brother-in-law, emphasized the Vice President’s rollout this week of the ‘Opportunity Agenda’ for Black men.

“It builds on plans and policies that she’s already put forward: to invest in small businesses, in small business creation, she wants to create 25 million new small businesses in her first term. But this one was particularly targeted [toward] Black men.” West said.

Influencer TG Grantham drove the point home of the Black community being failed by Trump during his presidential tenure.

“[His] Project 2025 agenda would be a disaster – from raising costs on the average black family by nearly $4,000 a year to gutting affordable health care coverage, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and more,” Grantham expressed.
