Detroit staple Buddy’s Pizza to open this week in Downtown Detroit

What started on the Eastside of Detroit in 1946 on Six Mile and Conant has now become a global phenomenon. The topic of discussion here is Deep Dish pizza, and if you’ve had Buddy’s Pizza, then you’re in for a treat.

In a long-overdue move, Buddy’s Pizza will open its doors on Dec. 11 in Downtown Detroit. Buddy’s will sit at 1565 Broadway St. inside the historic Madison building. The building, which is owned by Dan Gilbert, also houses office spaces, meeting rooms and more.

CapitalSpring, a private investment fund worked in conjunction with Bedrock to make this move possible. In 2018, Buddy’s CEO Robert Jacobs stated that there are plans for Buddy’s to expand outside of its home base of Detroit, MI.

“We want to grow faster,” Jacobs said. “So, we believe that we needed some expertise and we chose to do it this way, as opposed to just trying to find people to hire ourselves. We wanted to get some expertise from a company who has a financial stake.”

Detroit is known around the world for its pizza chains. Worldwide pizza chains such as Dominos and Little Caesars started right here in the Motor City.
