“We are very excited to add Reyna Montgomery to our roster for the fall of 2013,” said Coach Rademacher. “She comes from a winning program and will add depth to the perimeter position immediately.”
A 5-7 athletic guard, Montgomery received three stars and a 90 scouts’ grade by ESPN as a rising junior, before missing the last three games of her junior year with an injury and then the first 19 games of her senior year with a separate injury. She came back to average 5.2 points per game in eight games on the court and also took home first and second team All-OCC (Ohio Capital Conference) accolades as well as special mention All-State in track and field.
“She has fallen off the recruiting radar due to a few injuries over the course of her career, but she is back and in phenomenal shape,” said Coach Rademacher. “She has the ability to score, but her biggest strength is to create and distribute. She is a hawk on defense and she will fit in perfectly with our up-tempo style of play.”‘
A four-year letterwinner on the hardwood and a two-year letterwinner in track, Montgomery helped Lincoln High School to a 74-26 record during her time as a prep, which included three district championships and a regional semifinals appearance in 2013. She played AAU for All-Ohio and Team Supreme and was a captain for All-Ohio.
She joins a talented rookie pool for the Titans in the upcoming season that will also have Minisha Frederick-Childress (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato East), Lizzy Connors (Waukesha, Wis./ Waukesha West), Tayla Gibb (Toronto, Ont./Eastern Commerce C.I.), Megan Galloway (Greenville, Ohio/Greenville) and Haleigh Ristovski (Sterling Heights Mich./University Liggett) suit up as freshmen in 2013-14.
Detroit clinched its second straight winning season last year with a 21-13 record, the first time it has had back-to-back winning seasons since 2001 and 2002. It also marked the first time the Titans have posted two straight years of 20 wins since four straight from 1978-82. UDM also won the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) in 2013, its first postseason championship since 1981.
